ALTernatives

ALTernatives is a serious prevention game designed to raise young people's awareness about domestic violence in relationships by allowing them to play as different characters.

The idea for this project was born following the success of the “Plus fort que la violence” exhibition. This interactive exhibit represents the rooms of an apartment, each one linked to a specific theme. Covering an area of over 100 square meters, it is very impressive and well designed. However, it is difficult to transport, which limits its reach.

The Conférence romande des Bureaux de l’Egalité therefore commissioned us to develop a complementary piece to this exhibition. Since this game is aimed at students and young people, the themes it addresses mainly revolve around domestic violence in early relationships, such as sexual violence or cyberbullying. It was developed in close collaboration with representatives from the Bureaux de l’Egalité, education and training departments of seven cantons, and with contributions from domestic violence experts as well as young people.

ALTernatives allows players to take on the roles of different characters in various situations. The objective for the students—similar to an escape game—is to find a way out of a domestic violence scenario. Students must interact with their environment and other characters to explore the possible outcomes of a situation. Once a theme has been completed, a debriefing session reminds students of the key educational points and directs them to the appropriate resources if needed.
